Does attending a residential treatment facility mean you can't be granted a clearance

Here's a question I recieved over the summer:

Would attending a residential treatment facility be a disqualifier?
It wasn't for drugs just a place more or less to mature between hs and college. Also would they even be able to find it like through insurance records? on Security Clearance Disqualifiers

Answer:

Attending a residential treatment facility does not preclude an individual from obtaining a security clearance.  But not reporting participation and attendance may; so always report such information.  This allows the Adjudicator to quickly qualify your circumstances and recommend you receive, or continue to receive a security clearance.
The Background Screening Process asks if you've attended or participated in such a program.

Make sure to provide the following information:

Dates of attendance
Certificate of completion
A good contact name, telephone number and business address of your assigned counselor/therapist and facility
Any additional comments from you
Any additional comments from medical professionals providing treatment prior or after treatment at the facility

Any respective contact name/s, telephone number/s, and business address/es of past or current counselors or therapists

Over twenty years in the Navy, I continued to observe individuals who participated in residential programs obtain security clearances.  I also observed, those who didn't provide any related documentation were notified they could appeal the decision not to grant them a security clearance at this time.  So make sure to report all such activity.

Here's to everything working out for you; with best fit results; or something better.
